Appointments & Office Policies

What should I do if I become sick during evenings or weekends?

For non-emergency medical needs after-hours or on weekends/holidays, please call your usual MetCare office number. Our 24 hour answering service will relay your message to the doctor on call. Rest assured, the physician returning your call will be from one of our medical offices. Click here for a list of our office phone numbers.

If you feel you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 immediately or seek care at the nearest emergency room. If you receive treatment from any other physician such as at a hospital emergency room during evening or weekend hours, it is important that you inform your personal MetCare physician’s office as soon as possible.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT YOUR PHONE LINE You may have chosen to "block" your home phone line so that anonymous phone calls cannot ring through. If you call your MetCare office after hours and request a phone call from the physician on call, please temporarily unblock your line! If you are unable or unwilling to do this, it may delay or interfere with receiving a timely response from the physician on call.

How do I schedule an appointment?

We strive to make accessing medical care easy. Contact your MetCare office by phone to schedule an appointment. Same day appointments are available in the event of an urgent need; please help us to serve others by requesting same day service only when you really need it.

In addition, each MetCare medical office has a Nurse Practitioner on duty to assist with managing your care between physician visits.

Labwork must be ordered by your physician, and is performed at the following MetCare locations:

  • MetCare Plantation
  • MetCare Boca Raton
  • MetCare Everglades
  • MetCare Wellington
  • MetCare Jupiter

Please call in advance to schedule lab appointments; this will help avoid long waits.

What if I can’t make my scheduled appointment?

Call immediately to reschedule! This way we can ensure you stay on track, while also opening the availability to another customer.

When/how should I schedule follow-up appointment(s)?

It's best to make your follow-up appointments as you are leaving the office; that way you’ll have more appointment times open to choose from.

For your best possible health outcome, we encourage you to see your physician at least every three months, and to remain an active participant in your care plan between visits. This means doing your part by managing diet and exercise, taking your medications as instructed, participating in preventative health screens. Taken together, it all helps!

What exactly is a complete physical exam?

It is a comprehensive history and head to toe examination. It may or may not include screening tests depending on your age, gender, prior history and risk factors.

To schedule comprehensive appointments such as a complete physical, please call as far in advance as possible.

What happens when I need to see a specialist?

MetCare physicians practice advanced primary care medicine, and all are board certified in family care or internal medicine. This qualifies them to oversee your health care needs across the continuum.

From time to time, however, it may be necessary for you to see a specialist. Many types of insurance require a "referral" from your primary physician for specialist visits. Be sure to contact your personal MetCare physician for guidance through the referral process.

And rest assured that our office will not just send you to the specialist’s office. We will remain vigilant and involved, to ensure that the needs of your specific care plan are met. Once you’ve seen the specialist, you’ll need to return to your MetCare “home” office so that your personal physician can review options with you, based on the specialist’s feedback.
